1 dead in a crash on the Lebanon pike in Murfreesboro


MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (WKRN) – One person was killed in a three vehicle crash in Murfreesboro on Wednesday.

Police said the preliminary investigation showed that a woman was driving a silver 2010 Ford Escape south on Lebanon Pike (Hwy 231) near Cherry Lane at around 10:39 a.m. when her car crossed the double center line and Hit a blue Toyota Prius from 2013 forcing it off the lane into a ditch. The Prius driver, a 66-year-old man, was trapped in his car.

Firefighters from the Murfreesboro Fire Department used hydraulic equipment to rescue the man. He died about an hour later at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

The impact whirled the Escape around and hit a 2020 gray Nissan Rogue. The driver of the Rogue suffered minor injuries and was cared for on site. The driver of the Escape was not injured, but was evaluated as a precaution.

The crash locked Lebanon Pike for hours in either direction between Cherry Lane and Central Valley Pike.

The road has since been cleared and the accident is still being investigated.
