US Foreign Policy Team Sends Confusing Signals About Iran: Analyst

The current US foreign policy team is “full of disagreements and sending confusing signals” about Iran, said an American political commentator in Oregon.

In an interview with Press TV on Friday, Charles Dunaway said there are die-hard Zionist neoconservatives anchored in key roles in the State Department and the White House who will do everything in their power to undermine President Joe Biden if he becomes a more realistic one Takes a stand on Iran.

As a new round of talks between Iran and the five remaining parties to the groundbreaking 2015 nuclear deal is due to begin in Vienna, China is calling on the United States to “revise” its failed “maximum pressure” policy on Iran and all “illegal” sanctions against Tehran after unilaterally withdrawing from the agreement.

“I would like to emphasize once again that the US, as the culprits of the Iranian nuclear crisis, should revise its erroneous policy of ‘maximum pressure’ on Iran and lift all illegal sanctions against Iran and the ‘long-armed jurisdiction’ against third parties,” said the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Zhao Lijian, at a regular press conference in Beijing on Friday. “On that basis, Iran should resume full compliance,” he added.

In a tweet on Thursday, the European Union’s deputy foreign policy chief Enrique Mora said that Iran and the five parties to the 2015 agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), would start talks in Vienna on Monday to lift the Sanctions against Iran would resume to “discuss and define the path”.

Dunaway said, “The Chinese State Department is absolutely right that the US should have lifted all sanctions against Iran before starting these talks on the JCPOA. This would have immediately restored the contract to its original form. Thereafter, the parties could negotiate further matters in good faith. “

“One problem that is not being addressed is that the US government cannot be trusted to honor its contractual obligations. Even the Obama administration, which was negotiating the JCPOA, imposed new sanctions in violation of the agreement the next day after the treaty was signed, ”he added.

“Since the US only despises international law and the United Nations, there is no way of holding it accountable for its repeated violations of this and many other treaties. Even if the Biden administration had the integrity and inner strength to drop sanctions and revert to the deal, the next government would most likely step down. The pressure from the Israeli lobby would be relentless and few US politicians would have the courage to face them, ”he said.

“The current foreign policy team in the US is also full of disagreement and sending confusing signals. There are die-hard Zionist neoconservatives anchored in key roles in the State Department and the White House. If the president takes a more realistic stance, they will do everything in their power to undermine him. This can be seen in the mixed signals regarding Ukraine and Taiwan, ”he noted.

“After all, Iran’s nuclear program is not the real reason for the sanctions. The cause is the desire of the Zionist occupation regime to be in the region without resistance so that it can continue to steal Palestinian land and attack its neighbors with impunity. Even if the JCPOA is revived and Iran returns to compliance, the Israelis will not be satisfied. Your hatred of Iran will continue. Overcoming the sanctions by trading with countries that are not under US control is the only way forward, ”concluded the analyst.
