Former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki criticized the national consultation recently announced by the authorities, suggesting that it was a “fraudulent plan” to obtain data from Tunisians for future re-election of President Kais Saied.
“You speak of a popular consultation which is a new scam that takes advantage of some naive people who do not know that their data must be used for the re-election of the ‘Brother Leader’; and that the new constitution, in the they are “consulted” has already been written. It’s a mere copy of Decree 117 with a few empty slogans. This constitution does not need anyone’s thoughts except the inspired guide. Even the results of the ‘referendum’ have already been determined (maybe between sixty and seventy percent). This is absurd theater and these are miserable actors. “Al-Marzouki said this through a post on his Facebook page.
President Kais Saied recently confirmed the holding of a national consultation which he had previously announced in the roadmap. “It will fall within the framework of a new vision that will allow the sovereign Tunisian people to express their will freely.”
Meanwhile, the Tunisian authorities announced on Saturday the launch of an electronic platform for national consultation, provided that “fair processes” are observed in the youth facilities in all 24 Tunisian governorates. The platform is experimental and will last two weeks from January 15, 2022.
