The Slovenian Basketball Federation announced that Goran Dragic, Luka Doncic, Mike Tobey and Vlatko Cancar will play against Turkey in the EuroBasket pre-season game tonight in Istanbul.
|Place of birth:||Ljubljana, Slovenia|
Cancar, forward for the Denver Nuggets, will make his debut for the national team this summer after missing the FIBA World Cup European Qualifiers window in June and July.
Team captain Dragic returns to the Slovenian NT for the last dance in EuroBasket 2022. He and Doncic, who attended team practice yesterday, navigated their national side to back-to-back wins in the most recent FIBA window.
The duel Turkey-Slovenia starts at 19:00 CEST. Istanbul holds special meaning for Slovenia as they won their first EuroBasket in 2017 behind the dominant combination Dragic and Doncic.
“When we arrived in Istanbul, we relived the triumphant feelings of five years ago. This is our happy city, hotel and arena. But that is behind us. We are interested in the future and we are all with the desire in the national team.” to repeat this success or to get closer to it.
The players who have been added in the last few days are a huge added value for the national team. I believe that we will get better from training to training. The game against Turkey will be the first real indicator of what we are capable of at the moment,” guard Klemen Prepelic told the federation’s website.
Slovenia will be based in Cologne for the first group stage of EuroBasket 2022. The reigning champions meet France, Lithuania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary and hosts Germany from September 1-7, 2022.
